National Dig Safe Month

With the warmer weather comes the start of many construction projects, and that means being aware of what is buried under your feet!

This is why Canadians have made April National Dig Safe Month.

Every day millions of people walk, bike, jog or drive over thousands of kilometers of buried utilities without giving it a second thought. It’s not until a tragic environmental accident occurs, or a power-line is hit and an entire neighborhood loses power, that people think about these underground facilities.

Whether the projects are large scale, or simply putting up a fence, everyone is required to Click Before You Dig when doing any type of ground disturbance.

What constitutes as “ground disturbance”?

-any work, operation or activity that results in a disturbance of the earth requires that you contact a One-Call center in order to learn what utilities are buried in your dig site. Common utilities are pipelines, power-lines, natural gas lines, sewage and water lines, internet and TV lines.

Once your facilities have been located, make sure that you understand what the colours mean – check out our handy graphic below.

If you project is of a larger scale 3-D’s experienced Line Locators and Ground Disturbance Managers will help ensure that the project is completed safely and efficiently.
