Line Locating and Sweeping Crews

3-D has extensive experience providing pipeline and buried utility locating services to the Pipeline, Oil & Gas, and Industrial Construction industries. Our Sweeping Crews use proven procedures along with the latest technology to locate pipelines, power lines, telecommunication, sewer & water lines, as well as cable and fiber optic utilities on major construction and maintenance/integrity projects.

Thanks to our abundance of experience and our meticulous attention to detail we have a comprehensive understanding of everything that the client needs to safely perform sweeps to locate, stake, and map underground assets during excavations.

Our line locating services include; preliminary locates for route planning, depth of cover surveys for possible crossings, 4,7 and 10-way sweeps of proposed rights-of-way and all related access roads, laydown areas, and workspaces, sweeps for brush clearing or logging activities and pre-construction staking/flagging and sweeps for early works as well. With our extensive oilfield experience, congested crossings or busy tie in sites are handled accurately, confidently, and efficiently.

Locate Tech using the locating equipment, which emits an electromagnetic frequency.

Q.  How is 3–D Line Locating able to locate underground facilities?

A.  We use a combination of specialized equipment combined with certified and competent technicians working in teams of 2. The equipment we use applies an electromagnetic frequency, or “signal” by induction, or by direct connect method to an insulated conductor (pipe or cable) with the transmitter, and detects the frequency radiating from the conductor with the receiver.

Our workers will then mark out the facilities using stakes or spray-paint.  The different colours of paint or flagging will inform the people digging of what is buried below.  Read our post on What Do All The Marker Colours Mean? to learn more.

3-D’s Web Based and Mobile GIS – Document Control

3-D Line Locating is proposing to use an advanced web based and mobile GIS to aid in the construction and project management of pipeline Projects.  The GIS will serve as a data and document repository for any information that may be required for the successful completion of projects as well as a collaboration tool for field and office staff.  The GIS will also serve as a system of record for all data and documentation created or collected before, during and after the construction process.

One of the many ways our GIS can be used on your project is with Document Control

Using the GIS, all users access the same document versions based on the release schedule controlled by the client.  In other words, only approved documents will be released and users will not be able to make changes to approved revisions.  Once these approved documents are released and uploaded into the GIS, all web users will have immediate access to them and they are also available for offline synchronization by mobile users.  This process drastically reduces the need for printing and distributing copies of updated plans and drawings and ensures that all outdated revisions are no longer available.
