It’s that lovely time of year again where homeowners are eagerly anticipating getting out in their yards, and planning their projects for the Spring/Summer months coming. You may want to extend or create a new flower bed or garden, put up a fence, plant a row of trees/shrubs or even build that deck you’ve been wanting for years. Most homeowners are not aware that even for a simple tree to be planted in your yard, it should require an AB One Call to be placed to prevent possible damages to your underground pipeline and utilities, and/or yourself.
Some utilities are buried less than 60cm deep. Were you aware of this? Proper Ground Disturbance protocol states that when digging to a depth of more than 30cm an AB One Call Ticket should be placed and the utilities should be located prior to excavating.

Power cables and secondary gas lines are often not identified in the One Call locate and are often buried less than 60 centimeters deep. Customer-owned lines such as sewer service, sprinkler systems or any additional lines connecting other buildings on your property are your responsibility as the home owner to have them identified prior to your ground disturbance.
